Am I supposed to care? I don't.

Only a problem if you're an action junkie. Most of us actually do want to learn more about the world Ainz landed into

Indeed. I think they will bring up the Ainz & Albedo character/love focus anyway, there is no need worry. Starting season 2 now>.<

I don't know about you guys, but I find it a bit difficult to become emotionally invested in the love story of two lizards. I do hope that doesn't become a central focus in the plot, because that's going to be a bit uncomfortable to watch to say the least.

This is Overlord. It's always been about building up the world then throwing the sledgehammer known as Ainz and co at it to see how it reacts to that sudden unbalance of power

The overlord wasn't in this one, how a bit disappointing but it was nice. I guess Crusch is starting to warm up to Zaryusu, because she accompanied her to negotiate with the Dragon Tusk tribe. I guess this Dragon tusk Chief Zenberu Gugu is going to be a tough opponent, now I can't wait for ep 3.

This build up to the war seems to be interesting.

The original is the novels and Overlord is too much for those that only want action.
Think of it like the Tolkien series of anime.

Anime onlies have understandably misunderstood what this series is all about but you can’t really blame them because the first season was the prologue and focused on Ainz.

From here on overlord will start focusing less on Ainz and instead focus on arcs centered around different areas and people and explore their daily lives and customs before Ainz crushes everything .

I suggest people that want more of season 1 to drop this.

Yeah, I couldn't care less about these lizards, so this episode was really boring and disappointing. This second season only has 13 episodes, and this felt like a complete waste of one of those.

The quicker the show moves on from this arc, the better.

Hmm...So in the end are we trapped in the fear of how many episodes we have instead of actually producing something worthy it seems many times. Nice detail story telling takes time and effort but when you have this limited episode thing you end up just being in a harry and wanting to get into juicy parts and not able to enjoy any world building.
That shows the problem with the current ways anime are made and this small seasons.
There is a good chance that f this show was announced for 100 episodes everyone will just sit tight and relax about this lizards taking a few episodes but as it is people feel more anger than anything and it is a problem of this season small episode seasons.

It was definitely bad. If at least the Lizards had interesting characters it would be ok. But there wasn't anything that hold my atention. And that romance scene was really cringe

You are right they don't appear interesting because the content is rushed. In the LN they were from the most interesting characters but watching this you feel like :"why should i care about this lizards?".
It seems the makers of this anime wanted to show the lizard arc as to avoid Overlord fans getting annoyed from them skipping things but at the same time they are simply rushing threw it so they can go back to Ainz and not have people getting frustrated from watching small time characters they don't care about etc.
It seems like the worst choice they could make really. Trying to satisfy all and ending satisfying none because ether you do something well or you don't do it. Doing it half ass ends up annoying everyone.
Again the only arcs made well in anime was the first two arcs with Ainz saving Carne village and fighting Clementine, after that everything has been a rushed mess.

Also i have to say looking at this episode it is now clear to me this series is going with low budget and that is disappointing.

Kerozinn said:
kinda enjoyed it but it was just nonstop dialogue..and really akward and weird at times.

Because they are rushing is seems like an unbearable dialogue episode since they want to throw the explanations and dialogues that you need ton hear to get what is happening but they don't want to waste time so they threw one dialogue after the other and you feel like getting a boring episode full of speeches.
So there is dialogue with no character familiarity and exposition and time spend with such characters like an LN reader felt.

Darken_BR said:
I'm enjoying the new characters and their lore, but I can't help but feel that it's lacking action. You can't just make building-up episodes forever, you know?

maybe i have lost my counting skills but we are talking about just the second episode of a show right?

Your idea of what Overlord is, is a false idea. What you saw was the start where they introduced Overlord himself and showed his amazing powers just so you will get an idea of the kind of creature we are talking about that later affects so many lives.
Overlord really is a series that focuses a lot on the life of others and seeing threw them what the presence of a godly being like Ainz brings to their life.
reading the LN you realize that Ainz himself is boring really and the story is worth reading because of those other characters that are a lot more humane.

Let's be honest so far overlord II is appalling

I’ll admit that as long as you admit season 1 was actually pretty daft and only had appeal as many of us would like to live out a poorly fleshed out fan fiction on being an Uber powerful character with no consequences.

If Overlord was just following an upper powerful being and showing off how awesome he is it would get tiring really fast and have the story telling quality of SAO.
The author of the novels very well realized he had no story by simply following an overpower-full being all the time. Nothing will seem interesting like that.
So he made the story about different characters and their life and what that being appearance have brought into their life and the world.

Unfortunately the stories about the lives of this characters read more like classical novel stories and cheap thrill small anime seasons aren't something you can use to show them where viewers just want to see and watch action and crazy fast fun shit happening with Ainz showing his all powerful powers in the limited 13 episodes they have.

They were always lizardmen. Even the Engrish of the spoken line says Lizardman

So I went back to episode 1 and took a quick look, 15 mins in; Ainz was saying (according to the subs) - "It's said that either 5 or 7 dragons serve as the nation's councillors". The number seems to add up for me.

Different things. This are just a bunch of small lizardmen tripes near a lake in a forest near Nazarick.
The dragons are councilors to a nation far away.

This arc and the next one is what sets Overlord apart from the other isekai. In neither this arc nor the next, Ainz is the main character. I can understand why people who only watched this series for Ainz will be disappointed.

However, for me who is more interested in the lore of the world, this is easily one of my favourite arc in Overlord. I'm extremely glad Madhouse understood that and didn't cater to the people who just wanted to see their OP MC and waifu characters.

Yes but they ain't doing as they should. If they had decided to go that way and really show the world building etc, then they should it well but they ain't doing that. the next episode especially shows that.

I really liked this episode. The penguin butler was awesome and the Lizardmen story arc is interesting.
It's something new and strays from the usual fanservice, harem and OP main character that has no actual obstacle because everyone is weaker than him (and I know, that's part of his charm, that he's so ridiculously overpowered and respected but he's just a Japanese salesman who is an avid gamer irl).

The Lizardmen arc gives more tension because you're worried they would get killed since their enemy is much stronger. So the lizards are the actual underdogs you want to root for.

I don't know. Can't say I find any of this boring. Everything with the lizardmen, their clans and history included, has been rather interesting. I'm enjoying all this world-building. When we compare Overlord to that other iyashikei show this season...well, Overlord is leaps and bounds above that generic mess.

Sure is evil of Ainz to want to wipe out the poor lizardmen clans, though. :(

Since we're starting off with mostly lore and world building, I think I'll wait until I have a few episodes ready to watch consecutively rather than as they come out. I'm fine with this aspect of story telling, but it's easier to get invested in a new group of characters by following a decent chunk of their story on one day, rather than seeing them for 20ish minutes a few weeks apart. I could barely remember what happened in ep 1 at this point, because it was a good info dump episode but there was nothing particularly memorable to centre it around. A good focal point in a episode is always helpful when trying to remember the rest of it.

Anyways, seems like an interesting arc, just one I would prefer not watching piecemeal

I see a lot of people in this forum talking shit about the lizard men and the fact that the show focuses too much on them, but honestly I'm digging it. Idk I guess I really enjoy when a form of fantasy media really delves into world and character building and I feel it adds a lot more to the story, especially in this case when Momonga's overpowerness could come stale after a while and this helps keep that from happening, at least for the moment

Aaaaand dropped. Though unlike half of the posters, it's not because what happened in this episode but instead what is about to in the next few.

Ainz has always been walking on a very thin line of grey morality - on one hand he has saved a lot of people from death, while on the other he has given his minions a full lease in order to secure his objectives, which resulted in quite a few indirect murders as seen with Shaltear.

But he has been slipping down the slope more and more. Let's take examples, shall we -

  • He has refused to revive people because his secret might get out - and that's a fair and legitimate fear.
  • he has one adventuring party murdered by his minions because they interfered in his plans - and hey we hardly knew them, but the leader was a jerk, so of course he and his team deserved to be murdered in cold blood and experimented on.
  • and now he has sent one of his minions to slaughter one of the monster/demi-human species of Lizardmen, because he wants to see if they make good undead warriors - and i GUESS that's fine too. They are an inhuman species after all, so morality should not extend to them at all. plus they are probably stupid animals that have somehow learned to walk on two legs, and no way have they an actual society or something. they are even probably a hindrance to actual humans who live in this country. so who would lose sleep if one such species were exterminated? definitely not Ainz!

...
yeah i'm done.

i'm guessing this season makes it clear we're following a villain protagonist in his story, but those kinds of stories have never been my cup of tea. At least not if the asshole doesn't get at least some form of comeuppance. i mean, i love Death Note, and half of it's because there is a proper heroic antagonist as Light's foil, and partly because

ok i lied. the second part is actually a major part of my reason, but one gets the point.

Ciao, Overlord!

I see many did not appreciate the lizardmen, seeing them as subhuman, thus unimportant to the plot. I however found the attention given to the Lizardmen to be super cool. Stories which provide character development for lesser beings will ultimately provide the richer story experience later.

-Interesting to learn about the history and politics of the Lizardmen.

-The episode appears to be building up the characters of the lizards for a plot impact down the road once Ainz carries out his genocidal plot.

-The interaction between Zaryusu and Crusch Lulu was rather awkward.

-The penguin has ambitions to usurp the thrown? XDD We do see Demiurge fighting Ainz in the OP though. Hmm...

i think hes plan is not wipe them all out he gave them 8days why? so they would form a alliance so he could test them and get the strongest in to hes army, yes he will leave them in to tier situation with daking the strongest, but not a whipe out

with shall she stepped out of line, she said i wasn't ordered... but she did anyway and when this guy gave her the slip she lost it didn't care so to get him she ordered her minions/summons to go and kill awry1 in the village but they were killed by the ones that took control over her that saved her for goint to the point of no redemtion, anzi would have killed her sins he can no longer re-brogram her

also this is war and war is ugly and all side do shady and/or despicable deeds

i think u judge 2early 😁

EDIT:

yup u judged 2early, he did not wipe them out he occupied them, so new hes boss of them
