The bright side is, I will actually be earning money. The down side? Its minimum wage.

A bit of an update. Finally made a choice about College
Posted 15 years agoAs a few of you know, my mom recently had surgery to have her gall bladder removed. Those of you who don't know, that was more than a month ago. On Tuesday, she had surgery to have bone spurs removed from her foot. The surgery went as well as could be expected. That's saying, of course, that she did not have to face major complications this time around. I stayed home today to help her since she's bedridden. She should hopefully be walking normally in a few days, and the cast should be coming off in several weeks.
In other news, news about me, I have finally made a decision about college. Yes, I WILL (Hopefully) be attending college in the near future, for Creative Writing. In the Transition Program my parents signed me up for, I have been working towards publishing my short stories in a fantasy and science fiction magazine.
On a final note, to those who were worried from not hearing from me in a long time, I'm sorry I waited so long to give you guys an update!

The World Has Lost A Good Man
Posted 15 years agoA few weeks ago, Kim Peek, the famous Megasavant who was the inspiration for the movie "Rainman,"passed away at the age of 58 from a massive heart attack. His 96 year old father, (His sole caregiver) his brother, mother, and sister, all outlived him. May he rest in peace. *Gives a moment of respectful silence*

And the fate of his prized possession, the Best Picture Oscar for that the movie "Rainman" won, remains unknown at this point. But I, personally, hope it finds its way back to director Barry Levinson.

Did anything happen with me while FA was out?
Posted 15 years agoTo put it simply, yes. I am now single due to having both my mates leave me. Though I do not hate them for it, I am still devastated by my losses

So...yeah. My dad knows.
Posted 15 years agoA few days ago, my dad and I had a conversation about why he no longer likes Clive Barker (Because he's gay and puts it in his books) and then one thing led to another, and eventually came to me telling him about my bisexuality. There is good news, and bad news here.
Good News: Well, he didn't kick me out of the house like I truly expected him to.
Bad News: He still thinks that the thought of homosexuality is a perversion and was even so bold as to ask me how I could become something so immoral and offensive.
But, despite the bad news, it's good to finally have the worries about what he would think of it off my back.

Movie Review: "District 9"
Posted 15 years agoHello, its me, your self appointed critic, back after a long hiatus and here with another review for you! The movie's name is "District 9". It is a science fiction epic from writer/producer/director Neill Blomkamp (The guy that would have done "Halo")
The storyline is as follows: Twenty years ago, in 1990, an alien spacecraft was spotted on planet Earth. To everyone's surprise, it stopped and floated above Johannesburg, crashed, stranded, and not moving. Several weeks passed before the humans decided to go inside the spacecraft. Inside they find more than a million vaguely humanoid aliens in horrible physical and environmental conditions. The aliens are taken outside their spaceship and kept in slum-like areas all residing in District 9 where they remained for twenty years.
OK, that's enough about the storyline. One thing I went into this movie expecting was a lot about the aliens. This I got, though it wasn't all that there was to the movie. The characters are shockingly believable, with no recognizable faces anywhere. The storyline is one that is multi-layered, unique, deep, involving, and brilliant. And, what surprised me most of all was how much information and detail they put into the movie. There is a fully realized and invented world depicted in the movie, one absolutely convincing in its magnitude and scale. Another thing that stands out was the aliens themselves: They are amazingly rendered and look like something you could reach out and touch. For those who don't like stories without there being humor and action, there were both here. There was even a bit of romance but not too much where you're disappointed that it all turned out to be a sappy romance. Pacing is consistent, characters were well thought out, brilliantly acted, and all the characters have tons of growth, and the storyline is deep and compelling while being very entertaining as well. There are too many things for me to say about how well made this movie was without me giving spoilers. It is a nice break from thin but very fun movies like "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" and "G. I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra" from earlier this summer. For all these reasons, "District 9" gets a 10 out of 10.
On a final note, if you find my score to be inaccurate or simply do not agree with me, then please speak up! I enjoy discussing and defending my positions.
Your self appointed critic.

OK, A Request...
Posted 15 years agoMany people call me a very talented writer yet never comment, some comment but not in a way that will help me improve, and many don't comment at all.
OK, I am wanting to improve on my stories. Now, when I get comments, they rarely say how good it is, how it could be better, what I need to focus on more, what I need to focus on less, etc.
So, what I am asking for is comments that tell me what I did well, what I didn't do well, how to improve what I have, and, if possible, a scale (1-10) on how good it is.
Most comments say something like "Its good!" or "I like!". What I am looking for is comments like "Everything here was well described, but you should probably focus more on the characters" or something like that. Constructive criticism.
Thank you. That is all

Job Update
Posted 16 years agoToday, Thursday, July 02, 2009, is officially the end of the first half of my eight week Summer Work Experience Program. Well, looking back, I gotta say, it was quite a bit different than what I expected. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be, but it was also hard much of the time. After I didn't pass the employment test for Ameren and I realized I would have to go to the summer program, I was a bit upset, but now, I'm kind of enjoying it.
On another note, I saw "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" a little while ago. Awesome movie was awesome!

"The Codex Alera" Books 1-4
Posted 16 years agoHi. As of a few days ago, I have read the first four books of "The Codex Alera" by Jim (The Dresden Files) Butcher.
Book one "Furies of Calderon" begins the story and set up of the world of Alera where every citizen has a sacred bond with the furies; elementals of fire, water, air, earth, wood, and steel. Everyone, that is, except young Tavi of Calderon, who, at sixteen years of age, has no fire fury to light his lamps, no air fury to help him fly. But things change when the oldest enemy of the realm, The Marat Horde, return to the valley. Tavi's courage and resourcefulness become a weapon greater than any other...one that could prevent the valley from open war.
In book two, "Academ's Fury", Tavi is now a student at The Academy, the finest school in all of Alera, and training to become a "Cursor"; the personal guard/messengers for the lords of Calderon. But, while in training, an attack from overseas weakens the First Lord's rule. If he should fall, a violent civil war is inevitable. At the same time, the Calderon Valley is slowly being invaded, and Tavi may well be the only one who could prevent everything from total destruction.
In book three, "Cursor's Fury", Tavi is now a Cursor for the First Lord of Alera. And when the the power-hungry High Lord of Kalare launches a merciless rebellion against the First Lord, Tavi of Calderon joins the newly formed legion under an assumed name. But after joining, he finds himself leading an ill equipped, inexperienced legion...the only thing standing between Alera and certain doom.
In book four, "Captain's Fury", Tavi is now Captain of the legions. And after two years of bitter conflict with the Canim (A race of anthro wolves), he realizes that a far greater threat exists...the one that drove the Canim to flee their homeland. Tavi suggests forming an alliance with the Canim against their common foe, but his words go unheeded, as the newly formed military captain has long since sought to wipe out the "Canim scourge" and their slave allies. Tavi must find a way to overcome centuries worth of hostilities if an alliance is to be formed, and lead his army in defiance of law, or none at all will have any chance of survival.
And so, that is that set up for the first four books. Each one, as you can see, has a unique story line. It has many, many other things to like in each book. Each has a very large cast of characters, a complex plot with many twists and thickenings, a continuous and constant fast pace, and nearly non-stop action. Each one in the series follows a pattern: Book two is better than book one, book three is better than book two, and book four is better than book three; unlike most series these days where they only get worse the further you get! This series is quickly becoming my all time favorite of all time! And those of you who love high fantasy, but are tired of all the reused elements, plot lines, and characters, DO NOT MISS IT! It has barely any traces of familiar elements to be found!
Thank you! That is all!
